American photographer. Charles Gatewood has been a photojournalist for mostof his 45-year career. He is the self-proclaimed "family photographer ofAmerica's erotic underground" and is best known for documenting the sexualunderground and helping launch the Modern Primitives movement into popularconsciousness. From 1966-1975, he worked on assignment for Rolling Stone,The New York Times, Harper's, Time, and other national publications. Hissubjects were often rock and roll artists of the day -- including Bob Dylan,Rod Stewart, Carlos Santana, Boz Scaggs, Al Green and others - as well asliterary figures such as William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.
